Apps

  • Linein

A simple audio repeater. Use this to test your sound or hear yourself.

  • Skype

Make calls from one computer to another, assuming both you and the person you're trying to call have a Skype account. See Skype.com for more details.

  • Macports

Like apt, for your Mac. In fact, there's even a port of Apt if you so care to install it. MacPorts has hundreds of ports of some of your favorite Linux packages. Check it out.

  • Handbrake

Use this app to rip those DVD's you so love to your hard drive. Come on, rip 'em! Take up lots and lots of space. You know you want to, and you have the space.

  • HamachiX

Create and join virtual local area networks. Way cool for sharing loads of stuff with your friends.

  • Clisk

A third-party commandline app for managing Skype calls and events. Created by my good friend Doug Lee. This app is most famous for its custom autoanswer feature. Set an autoanswer flag for your partner, best friend, or anyone else you feel like. You can even have priority autoanswer flags. Feel like putting your friends on hold any time your partner calls? Go ahead and do it. Want to fall asleep with your special someone on Skype? Go right ahead. Just reconnect to your sleeping someone if the call drops.

  • ClamXav

As mac users, we generally don't worry about viruses, but we know our Windows friends do. Use this app to scan a file before you send it along. Make sure to keep your virus definitions updated.

  • App Trap

This preference pane gives you the ability to delete preferences along with a .app file. Upon hitting command-delete you will be prompted to keep or discard your preferences.

  • Amadeus Pro

From the company web site: Amadeus Pro is a powerful multitrack audio editor supporting a variety of formats including MP3, AAC, Ogg Vorbis, Apple Lossless, AIFF, Wave and many others.

  • Bean

From Bean's web site: Bean is a small, easy-to-use word processor (or more precisely, a rich text editor), designed to make writing convenient, efficient and comfortable. Bean is available free of charge. MS Word, OpenOffice, etc. try to be all things to all people. But sometimes you just want the right tool for the job. That is Bean's niche.
